Now hold the slow key (CTRL) and put the new stadia mark at the top of the ship's masts. Click the ranging icon in lower left of notepad. Put the scope crosshair on the target's waterline. Your range calculation is critical, but to do that you have to properly identify the ship class your aiming at, some have additional entries with different mast heights.

Plus the UZO doesn't rock like the periscopes. I make mostly surface attacks so I can use the Watch Officer to check my data collection.
How I've been sharpening my torpedo shooting skills. If your time is limited it might take a week to do a patrol. I generally play a patrol over two days with a couple hours here and there. Time compression goes up to x1096 or something. You can save when ever you like and pick it up later. Mission length depends on how many contacts you run into and their type.
I'm looking forward to the late war EW systems. Like all sims, you get out of it what you put into it.

Is it a good time? How long is a typical mission when playing full real? Then again, perhaps it's only your story telling skills that really grab me. I sank 25,000 tons on the patrol bumping me up to number two in the U-boat Aces list. I sank it with my trusty deck-gun since I only had one torpedo ready to fire in the aft tube, tough to line up at times. About halfway back in the Norwegian Sea I ran into a small merchant that was flying the Polish flag when I got close enough to make out two horizontal stripes of light and dark. Going to flank speed I made my way out of there avoiding further patrol craft.Īfter repairing what I could I made my way back around the Shetland Islands to set coarse for the Helgoland Bight and my home port. On the surface I was in the center of two groups of other patrol craft nearly 10,000 m away from me. Running on the bottom for a while I finally decided to come up and use the hydrophone to scan for contacts. I tried losing them several times but they wouldn't let go. I dived and evaded the first rack of depth charges from the DE. Anyways I was nearly out of the channel when I was set upon by three very persistent patrol craft, one a destroyer escort. Since the wind was up to 6 meters per second I couldn't get my reserve torpedoes off the deck but I could use my trusty deck-gun. I struck gold, sinking several more ships there before expending all of my forward torpedoes and firing close to 100 rds from the deck-gun. The first ship I found I hit with an electric torpedo in the stern that finally sank. I decided to go into the Irish Sea through the North Channel. I had to patrol off the coast of Ireland but didn't see much. I started a career in 1939 with Flotilla 2 at Wilhelmshaven in a Type VIIB. Its taken six patrols to get my torpedo shooting skills back.
